I love how you've been inspired to start your own blog...sorry I cannot respond in Bulgarian, for Czech was my Slavic language of choice.
It isn't clear when these pictures were taken, I'm wondering if this was late 2005 or sometime earlier. Mara, I, and Richard Blue were in Sofia in November 2005 as part of a multi-country evaluation of ICNL's/ECNL's regional program to support development of NGO law. I had never been to Sofia before, so I was pretty excited that we would have some free time to explore a bit. Mara, naturally, was the perfect knowledge-host who took me to all of the neat places that tourists usually don't know about and/or explained neat facts not usually known: St Nicholas chapel hidden by the buildings, the park area near the thermal springs, the ruins in the shopping area off the metro stop, the sculpture park, and of course she arranged for me to have a hamster reading just as you have it in your pictures.
I really enjoyed Sofia more than I had thought I would, due as much to Mara's guidance as to the innate beauty/history of Sofia. Next time I am back in Sofia -- and I'm always always always looking for opportunities to do so! -- I would love to have coffee with you, maybe go to the chapel and light a candle for Mara.
I think it was you (Pl.) to blame for Mara's reluctance to stay at our place over the nights: she would be in a hurry (shortly after midnight!) to be back at the hotel and have a drink with her colleagues and have some fun with them/you all. My family certainly could see more of her, but then so could you - no hard feelings:)

Hey, Andrew,
It's great you responded! I think I even met you, Mara introduced us at your hotel and then I took her away, probably to do the show at my radio!!!
Anyway, I'd love to see you in Sofia and go light a candle for Mara at one of the many beautiful churches she liked so well!
Talk to you!
Zlatna
P.S. to Andrew:
